I worked as a summer intern with Cummins Care Level III, the division tasked with not simply understanding problems, but fully characterising them, creating advanced patches, and translating their findings into design repairs. I worked most closely with 10-20L diesel truck engines, gaining a deep understanding of their workings and control systems with teardowns, internal simulation tools and LabVIEW instruments. By the end of my internship, I had developed new documentation outlining how sensor failures in gas streams could be identified with trends in ECU behaviour and sensor data. I also got to drive some enormous vehicles!
